Noida is a city in Uttar Pradesh, India. It is one of the largest commercial and industrial cities of northern India. Noida (Noida) is located on the banks of Yamuna River in Gautam Buddha Nagar district and was named after Narain Dass, a freedom fighter from Kanpur, who moved to Noida in 1927. The city was earlier known as Purana Qila, which was renamed to Gautam Buddha Nagar by the Government of Uttar Pradesh in 2006.

The area that now constitutes Noida has been inhabited for thousands of years, since pre-historic times. Excavations have revealed bone fragments from animals such as rhinoceros, elephants and tigers. In Hindu mythology, it is believed that Lord Shiva had his head cut off by Indra (King of Gods) at Kashi (Varanasi), but came back to life at this place. The mythological story behind this place is also linked with Lord Krishna's visit to Mathura (City of Flowers).

The history of Noida dates back more than 5000 years when it was an important site on the ancient trade route between Delhi and Agra via Gurgaon & Meerut. During this period Kachchh became an important port city.
